The Haywood County Chamber of Commerce (whose outgoing Chairman is also The Smoky Mountain News Publisher) is hosting a Haywood County Elected Officials Reception on Monday 1/9/23 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Wells Event Center located at 33 Wells Events Way Waynesville, NC. Dear Editor:
After reading the Guest Column in the January 1 edition about Ivermectin, I am both confused and concerned! First, Dr. Jaben is our county medical director and should be an expert on Covid by now. However, he continues to demonstrate a lack of interest or knowledge in anything but testing, masking, and vaccinating…none of which have been particularly effective.
First, readers must understand that under federal law, there must be no approved alternative way of treating or preventing a disease before authorizing an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) of a vaccine. If vitamin D, Hydroxychloroquine, Ivermectin, or another drug was found to be effective, none of the Covid-19 vaccines would have been granted EUA and allowed to skip almost all safety testing. While the focus of this column was Ivermectin, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that the CDC now admits that the vaccines do NOT prevent COVID, nor do they prevent transmission of the virus. There has also been a record number of reports to VAERS of injuries and deaths following administration of the vaccines, including many healthy young people with no co-morbidities (www.OPENVAERS.com).
Dr. Jaben certainly tried to minimize the “folks” who “observed that some who took Ivermectin did not get sicker and concluded its benefit.” These “folks” were ER, critical care, ICU and other highly educated/trained physicians who used Ivermectin with their patients and saw striking differences in the outcomes of those who received Ivermectin versus those who didn’t. However, as those physicians began to share their results, they were censored, threatened with loss of their jobs and licenses, and ostracized. The politicization of this virus, the treatments, the vaccines, and free speech has been unprecedented!
Dr Jaben shared results of the ACTIV-6 study and implied that this is the only study we should pay attention to. He did an excellent job of explaining the randomized, double blind, placebo-controlled study and I’d like to point out that NOT A SINGLE COVID VACCINE, nor any other vaccine on the children’s schedule, has undergone this type of study! As far as the ACTIV-6 study, 1600 patients comprise a very small study to use to conclude that a treatment either works or doesn’t. A much larger patient group would be needed. Also, there have been more than 100 studies done around the world that have found Ivermectin beneficial and www.c19ivm.org has a detailed meta-analysis of many of these.
Many top physicians around the world do recommend Ivermectin for patients with Covid-19 and I’d like to conclude by pointing out that it can be purchased over the counter at pharmacies in Tennessee (www.tnfreedomdoctors.org).
Finally, I do agree with Dr. Jaben that many medical professionals are holding on to misguided beliefs or are not keeping up with the latest information. However, I think he needs to take a long look in the mirror…..Beware indeed.
