Canton approves a one-year moratorium on New Industry

Canton approved a one-year moratorium on any new Industy in Evergreen and Beverdam Industrial Park, to assure the kind of Industry that comes into Canton is good for the citizens.

“This is us fighting back, us saying we’ve taken enough of your random decisions,” Smathers said of Pactiv Evergreen. “We’ve been taking it and taking it. Sometimes you’re invited to the table, sometimes you bust in. It is very important that Canton and Haywood County have a seat at the table on what is next on that property.”
