Public Hearing about Emergency Shelter (Low Barrier?) at Old Clyde Armory

Unread post by Forum Member »

Concerned Citizens of Haywood** Public Hearing about an Emergency Shelter Coming to the Old Clyde Armory on Jones Cove Road** Citizens Must Show up on Jan. 3, 2023 to the Hearing, Call Mr. Francis, or Call the County Commissioners and Ask Questions** Emergency Shelters tend to become Low Barrier Shelters under New Housing First Models**

Please see the Attached Notice that was in The Mountaineer Weekend Edition: Public Hearing is Scheduled for January 3, 2023. That's not a very convenient time for a hearing of this importance, as many Citizens will likely be out of town.

Citizens may also contact David Francis, Program Administrator, at 828-356-2602 or the County Commissioners, and ask questions about what guarantees Citizens have that this "Emergency Shelter" won't become a "Low Barrier Shelter", which has no restrictions on Sobriety. It's, unfortunately, now common in America for "Emergency Shelters" to morph into "Low Barrier" Shelters under Obama's new "Housing First" Models, adopted in 2010.
