Haywood County Calls for Public Meeting to Turn Clyde Armory into Emergency Shelter. Citizens Call for Sobriety Rule

Unread post by Forum Member »

Haywood County placed a Notice of Public Hearing in the 12/18/22 Mountaineer to renovate the vacant Haywood County Armory in Clyde, to serve as the primary dedicated emergency shelter in the county. Every single emergency shelter in Buncombe County is designated a LOW BARRIER, NO RULES Shelter, which turns into nothing more than what we used to call a "Crack House". The County has called this notice in the paper a mistake but they plan to announce another meeting in the near future. Citizens have asked the Haywood County Commissioners to make "Sobriety" a rule in our emergency shelters, especially since families will be staying in these shelters along with children. We will post the next Notice of Public Hearing so citizens can speak out.

Great report on the Notice of Public Hearing sent out in error. David Francis is to blame for panic among Haywood County citizens. This reads like we're getting a new LOW BARRIER SHELTER!

All of Asheville's emergency shelters are No Rules, Low Barrier Shelters aka "Crack Houses".
