City of Asheville was Paid for our Economic Development! Now Haywood has No Jobs for the Paper Mill Employees

Since the news of the Canton Paper Mill closing, Economic Development in Haywood County is finally being discussed. Citizens discoverd the County Commissioners sent the development of all large scale Economic jobs to the City of Asheville's Chamber of Commerce and radical left Sunrise Movement Mayor Esther Manheimer was discussing the Economic Development of Haywood County with the Haywood County Chamber of Commerce President Cece Hipps! Since 2018 Haywood County has had some site visits but NO NEW ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT!

Listen to the Haywood County Commissioners meeting dated 1/18/22 at the 1:12 , as David Francis, Community and Economic Development Director, lays out Haywood County's new Economic Development plan, that focuses primarily on Workforce Housing. Over $650,000 of Haywood County taxpayer money has been sent to the Asheville City Chamber of Commerce over the past five years, to oversee Haywood County's Economic Development, and not one successful project has come to fruition in Haywood County. Stop giving Asheville taxpayer money for nothing. What have we seen from this "new model" the County Commissioners have proposed? Why are they talking about needing workforce housing when the Town of Waynesville has over 1000 apartments and condo's coming in the next two years, a large affordable housing project coming behind Walgreens on Russ Avenue, a huge housing project on Sunnyside Drive in Waynesville and the large housing project coming on Jonathan Creek, just to mention a few. Thousands of new people are coming to Haywood County. Why do they need more workforce housing? Where will all these people work, shop, get gas, eat out and shop for groceries? We've lost two opportunities to bring Cracker Barrell to Haywood County. Walmart is packed and we're standing in lines for gas and at restaurants. Haywood County needs a great new Economic Development plan. Maybe Phil Drake from Drake Enterprises in Franklin could advise our County Commissioners. He has done a great job in Franklin and he opened a call center in Waynesville.

Haywood County Commissioners have spent over $650,000 waiting for the City of Asheville's Chamber of Commerce to send large scale Economic Development projects like industry, restaurants or department stores, to Haywood County. Now we're in a crisis with over 1000 people loosing their jobs at the Canton Paper Mill with no jobs to offer these people. What will the County Commissioners do to bring in Economic Development now? David Francis Economic Director, needs to resign because all he and Commissoner Kevin Ensley could offer, was to build more workforce housing. Haywood County needs a great Economic Development Director and plan for the future of our county!

In the article posted below, Roy Cooper and Congressman Chuck Edward's promises to bring Economic Development to Haywood County, something the County Commissioners were unable to do. Maybe Haywood County will finally get some Economic Development.

A job search for the companies he mentioned revealed the following positions. A search for these jobs only shows around 30 jobs available and how much will these jobs pay?
