It would be difficult to consider continuation of Sutton for his vote to create an "Affordable Housing Crisis". There were no citizens asking for Affordable Housing. (The record shows one member of Down Home NC asked for affordable housing -- the same group that gives out needles if that tells you something.) Sutton was either duped or actually wanted what's too close to public housing projects popping up all over Waynesville now from his support of Waynesville Planning Director Elizabeth Teague:

The Comprehensive Land Use Plan was a FAILURE to represent the input from voters but instead took input from non-profits, left-leaning agendas, and cherry picked people. Sutton failed to recognize this stacking of the deck against the people of Waynesville. (Incidentally the same foundational failure the Homeless Task Force had in that it did not include citizen interests.)

In and of itself, a position on LGTBQ+ is unremarkable. However, Councilman Sutton stands out for his leadership on this topic being the Waynesville Councilman who issued a public statement about the complaint of a Transgender person in the Waynesville Rec property. There are now questions about how forthright the town has been on the matter and if Councilman Sutton has any part in attempts to bend the perception of reality:

In the candidate forum, Anthony Sutton spoke well. But the content of his responses were from the perspective of "I sat in the seat while these things happened." Sure, he was on the MPO -- but his participation as the MPO representative not only didn't get us anything -- he lost funding for the S. Main rehab project! Sure he was on the board of some non-profit organizations -- but his participation is only to secure funding... which is now illegal for towns that are slightly bigger than Waynesville. (Does anyone think Anthony Sutton would be on those boards if he weren't a Councilman?) So there was nothing in his performance that said "bad", there was also nothing that qualified him for renewal of his Councilman's seat. The way Waynesville is going we're going to need someone who understands their role to purposefully redirect our future instead of sitting in the seat for the joyride.
