The Town of Waynesville Mayor Gary Caldwell, City Council members Chuck Dickson, Anthony Sutton, Jon Feichter, Julia Freeman and Town Planner Elizabeth Teague were planning LOW BARRIER SHELTERS supplied with crack kits and needles. Chuck Dickson hired Amy Murphy-Nugen, Anthony Sutton headed up the task force work group endorsing LOW BARRIER NO RULES SHELTERS, and Elizabeth Teague tried to add a HOMELESS SHELTER definition to the Waynesville Land Development Standards to allow LOW BARRIER NO RULES HOMELESS SHELTERS.

Citizens worked for two years fighting the plan the City of Asheville implemented which tripled their homeless transients, tripled their crime and finally was turned over to the State of North Carolina Continuum of Care to fix their homeless crisis. Keep in mind damage is already being done by this lady. Amy Murphy-Nugen was key in creating a FALSE STUDY that concluded Waynesville has an affordable housing crisis. That false conclusion was picked up by the local papers and others to justify/persuade the elected people to put up all those low cost housing structures all over town.

The housing market in and near Waynesville will do it's normal cyclical thing soon and crash. Partly because of the horrible economy and mortgage/interest rates, and partly because of the Canton mill closing. On top of that Waynesville is flooding the market with low cost developments. So when housing crashes harder in Waynesville than elsewhere, blame those who allowed and championed the FALSE STUDY to say we need more affordable housing.
