You are cordially invited to a press conference on Monday, November 21, at 2:00pm, at the Historic Haywood County Courthouse, Main St., in Waynesville, NC.
The conference is hosted by the WNC REGIONAL DWI TASK FORCE, to announce an operation that has never been done before.
The WNC REGIONAL DWI TASK FORCE will turn the traditional Thanksgiving Eve, November 23, called by some “Blackout Wednesday “ and/or “Drinksgiving” Eve, BLUE.
All across WNC, simultaneously at 6:00 pm, on 11/23, patrol cars from multiple agencies will be stationed at the exact locations of DWI/SPEEDING fatal and serious injury wrecks, with blue lights flashing.
Many of those patrol cars will be driven by the officers who actually worked that wreck, and had to deliver devastating news to a family, just before the holidays.
In one instance, an officer is returning 25 years after a fatal wreck to man the patrol car.
We will share those locations with you at the conference, as we are in the process of notifying many families that their loved ones will be remembered in this way.
We believe that this will be a solemn reminder that someone died, or was injured, everywhere you see blue lights flashing on that evening because of DWI/Speed.
Speakers will be representatives from the NC State Highway Patrol, NC Police Chiefs Association, the District Attorney, MADD, Asheville PD, and surrounding agencies from throughout the region.
Please join us in this effort to start the holiday season off with a strong public safety message.
