Bombshell! Team Waynesville was telling the truth! All GAS equipment MANDATED to go ELECTRIC if possible $ not a factor!

An article in the Mountaineer Newspaper, entitled, "Team Waynesville pledges to restore small town values", Waynesville Town Council Candidate Stephanie Sutton is quoted as saying, "Right now, any piece of equipment purchased by the town has to be electric. Am I right in that?" Hannah replied, "that's what we've been told". The Mountaineer states," that is not actually the case, however. In May, the town council voted to merely consider electric alterntives when purching equipment-not a mandate."

In the May 9, 2023 Town of Waynesville City Council Minutes
Councilmember Chuck Dickson made a motion, seconded by Councilmember Jon Feichter, to direct the Town Manager to review all purchases of gas powered equipment, tools, mowers, or tractors before being purchased. The motion passed unanimously. Town Manager Rob Hites said the issue with commercial equipment being electric is they are not as durable or long lasting, but he will investigate the possibilities. (Rob Hites doesn't seem too keen on the idea) During this same meeting the council voted to increase your electric bill by 5 percent and Councilman Chuck Dickson suggested charging the base rate until you use over your limit and increase the rate after the electric capacity limit they choose.

This was a MANDATE for anything that would be gas powered to be passed through Town Manager Rob Hites, to be reviewed and purchase as electric equipment and cost was not a consideration.

An e-mail sent out from the Public Works Department states, "during the council meeting last night, a motion was made by Coucil, to pursue the avenue of electric equipment, large and small. With that being said, from this point moving forward, any needs for equipment WILL go though Lisa and Rob to look at electric options. What this means for daily operations and needs is, if you see you will need to replace a weed eater, saw, leaf blower, or any other piece of equpment (large or small) that would typically operate from gasoline or diesel, you will need to reach out to Lisa to see if an electric replacement that would meet your needs is an option. Lisa would then send the information to Rob for final approval. Let me know if you have any questions.

The current city council is losing their mind over climate change. They want to measure ambient heat our homes put out, solar panels on all government owned buildings, even though the cost will outweigh the benefit, and now they want every single piece of equipment to be considered electric before choosing gas. How many people have all electric equipment in their homes? We're talking about running a town with electric equipment? The city council has completly gone overboard. Check out this new Environmental Sustainability Board! And now they want to hire a grant writer to get environmental grants. The City of Asheville is doing the same exact thing and they plan to start cutting power to peoples houses at peak times. Do you want the government to control your life this way? Fire the current town council. It's time for new leadership with common sense.
