What caused Team Waynesville?

Unread post by Forum Member »

The Team Waynesville movement seemed to become a noticable thing when the Aldermen used the town attorney to tell the citizens to sit down and shut up in town meetings.

But that only happened when the regular and cordial lines of communication between citizens and those they elected to represent them were ineffective... or did actors in local government hijack virtually all the ears of the representatives?

Perhaps the elected ones always thought they were boss of the government and not voice of the people? Government types know well how to "manage up" to get what they want.

And how many committees were formed without the input of the regular citizens to be weaponized against them? A homeless task force that refused to consider any goals of reducing homeless blight on the community. An "affordable housing crisis" study that had no citizen input that caused 800+ apartments to be jammed in our town. And it seems every council person is on the board of some non-profit to secure their only contribution in the form of taking taxes from the people for the benefit of the non-profits. (That's actually illegal now in slightly larger towns.)

So the Team Waynesville movement it seems is a return of our local government to the voters to ensure it serves them well. Waynesville is highly attractive to outsiders as a place to live. As that opens up, we want that to be on our own terms. That means we need very good representation which isn't in place today. I doubt the Team Waynesville candidates will ever sic the town attorney on well-intentioned members of the community coming to meetings to voice their constructive concerns.

Even after the attorney was called out, Chuck Dickson wanted him to stay:
