Their coverage of HUD’s rejection of Asheville’s discriminatory disaster relief plan wasn’t about informing viewers—it was about manipulating them. Instead of reporting why HUD rejected the city's plan (because it violated federal law by favoring businesses based on race and gender), WLOS fanned the flames of division, implying that HUD and the Trump administration are harming minority and women-owned businesses.
That’s not the truth. The real story is that HUD is enforcing fairness in disaster relief—ensuring all business owners are treated equally. But WLOS didn’t emphasize that. Instead, they chose to push a false narrative—one designed to stir up outrage rather than provide factual, balanced reporting.
