The NCDOT agreed with a request to not park a project to renovate South Main St.

So now the question will be... how do Waynesville and Haywood County elected representatives going to ensure that this project gets the funding and support to move it along? The fact that it was taken off the list to begin with says our representation is not very effective. What chance do we have to get funding and support if Ensley and Sutton didn't even protest it being taken off until after the public got upset about it? Who else could fight more effectively for our project?

I mean Ingles bought and demolished blighted buildings because of the problems. What does it say that lots full of rubble are better than what was there? Is there a strategy at play where this project ties the hands of all the property owners along South Main Street because it's unclear when and how property will be taken by eminent domain? And therefore all the property values get reduced after years of limbo and non-investment? And then the NCDOT can take property at lower market values?

We need elected representatives to stand up for our community and deliver. Not go along with whatever it proposed and lobbied by other French Broad MPO members.
