President Donald Trump has stopped federal funding for the radial left progressive Harm Reduction groups that have been handing out unregulated needles and crack kits to drug addicts by the handfuls. The needles were littering the ground in Haywood County schools, playgrounds and parks. Churches were having to comb the ground for needle litter before easter egg hunts and a homeless camp next to the Waynesville Middle School had over 60 needles retrieved in one day. Now, President Donald Trump has come to our rescue and putting a stop to the homeless camps littered with needles in our community. Thank you, President Donald Trump, for helping Haywood County!

Inside a storage room at one County Health Department are boxes with taped-on signs reading, “DO NOT USE.” They contain cookers and sterile water that people use to shoot up drugs.

The supplies, which came from the state and were paid for with federal money, were for a program where drug users exchange dirty needles for clean ones, part of a strategy known as harm reduction. But under a July executive order from President Donald Trump, federal substance abuse grants can’t pay for supplies such as cookers and tourniquets that says “only facilitate illegal drug use.” Needles can't be purchased with federal money.

Based on reports from late 2025 and early 2026, the Trump administration moved to restrict federal funding for needle exchange programs (syringe services programs) as part of a broader shift away from certain "harm reduction" strategies.
Funding Restrictions: A July 2025 executive order led to guidance from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) stating that federal funds can no longer be used to purchase needles, syringes, or other items used to "facilitate illegal drug use".
