County Commissioner Chairman Kevin Ensley is Pushing a Far Leftist Agenda

Our County Commissioner Chair, Kevin Ensley, used to be a friendly, open minded, considerate person, but since the beginning of 2020, and he started the very first low barrier, no rules homeless shelter, at the Scottish Inn in Maggie Valley, he has become a negative, closed minded person who hates his constituents and public speakers at commissioner meetings. If a concerned citizen questions his authority and position he doubles down on his position and is closed minded and rude. Rumor has it, he will not run again. Citizens of this county hope this is true.

Watch while Commissioner Kevin Ensley doubles down on his belief that low barrier shelters fueled with crack kits and needles is the right thing to do for our county! Low Barrier Shelters supplied with crack kits and needles are the idea of George Soros, to create a crisis, so the government can solve it, like they have done in the city of Asheville. The goal of the far left is Socialism like Venezuela. Kevin Ensley made the comment "stores are responsible for the needle problem", but the truth is NC Harm Reduction not only delivers needles to drug addict's homes in Haywood County, they also supply drug dealers with needles and crack kits to give out with their meth, crack and heroin sales.

Kevin Ensley speaks publicly about advocating for LOW BARRIER SHELTERS and Harm Reduction. He is a dangerous elected official for Haywood County. He sat on the “Socialist” Town of Waynesville Task Force for Homelessness and pushed his low barrier shelter/ harm reduction plan, along with Socialist Down Home Task Force Director and WNC College Professor, Amy Murphy Nugen, which would have destroyed Waynesville.

Grants are attached to building low barrier shelters supplied with crack kits and needles. Asheville has tripled their homeless transients, vagrants and drug addicts and tripled their crime.

The City of Asheville also created a Task Force for Homelessness, and they have come full circle, turning over their homeless problem to the State of NC’s Continuum of Care. Read about their radical left agenda below. The Socialist Sunrise Movement has defunded and demoralized the Asheville Police Department to the point of losing more than 100 police officers. We need elected officials who stand up against the far left Socialist agenda. Kevin Ensley is agreeing with everything they bring to the table.

Commissioner Kevin Ensley has been paying $150,000 per year of our taxpayers money to the City of Asheville’s Chamber of Commerce, to send Haywood County large scale Economic Development, for the past five years with absolutely zero to show for it. The City of Asheville has not sent one single “closed” industry, restaurant, or department store over the past five years, for a total loss of taxpayer money of $650,000. If the contract continues through 2024 with the City of Asheville, the total will be $800,000.

Commissioner Chair Kevin Ensley and “do nothing” David Francis, Economic Development Director, came up with an irresponsible new Economic Development Plan in January 2022, to completely stop large scale economic development and only build more workforce housing! David Francis is paid $130,000 per year to come up with that idea? Kevin Ensley is quoted in the paper they would keep the $150,000 contract with the City of Asheville’s Chamber of Commerce for a while longer. Why would they want to spend more taxpayer money for nothing?

County Commissioner Kevin Ensley was quoted in the Smoky Mountain News about jobs available for the over 1000 displaced workers. A job search for the companies he mentioned revealed the following positions. A search for these jobs only shows around 30 jobs available and how much will these jobs pay? Kevin Ensley was so mad about Terry Ramey winning he made the statement to numerous people, " if Terry Ramey wins I'll quit". He tried his best to have Terry Ramey ousted from the County Commissioner Board and continues to ignore and deny Commissioner Terry Ramey was elected and the citizens love him.

Smoky Mountain News reported no Economic Development for Haywood County from the taxpayer money spent by Commissioner Kevin Ensley and "do nothing" David Francis, Economic Development Director, over the past five years, with $500,000 lost to the City of Asheville Chamber of Commerce! Smoky Mountain News didn't count the extra $50,000 per year paid to the Asheville/Buncombe Chamber that started in 2020.
